Jobs for your garden in January
• Think about purchasing water butts, rainwater will come useful in the summer.
• While trees and shrubs are still dormant, continue planting them.
• Think ahead to what you want in your hanging baskets for that year and get ordering before the busy period!
• Mist your indoor plants regularly as the central heating can dry out the air.
• Start pruning your apple and pear trees whilst they’re still dormant.
• Remove any faded flowers from your winter pansies, this will stop them setting seed.
• Sort out your seeds, get rid of empty or out-of-date packets
• Top up bird baths with fresh water daily and melt ice with warm water on frosty days
• Make sure there is enough food for the birds, put some fat balls
• Move potted strawberry plants under cover to help encourage early fruiting
• Clear algae and moss and soggy leaves from paths, decking and steps
