Gardening Jobs for October!

Gardening Jobs for October!

As the days grow cooler and the leaves begin to turn, October is a busy month in the garden. It's the perfect time to tidy up, plant for spring, and protect your plants from the colder weather ahead. By tackling a few key jobs now, you'll set your garden up for success throughout autumn and into next year.

Plant Spring-Flowering Bulbs

October is one of the best times to plant spring bulbs such as daffodils, crocuses, and hyacinths. Plant them in borders, containers, or naturalise them in your lawn for a colourful display next spring.

Top Tip: Plant bulbs at a depth roughly three times the height of the bulb for the best results.

October is a great time to plant tulips, and you'll find a fantastic selection of bulbs in stores at Cherry Lane now.

Rake Up Fallen Leaves

While a carpet of autumn leaves can look beautiful, leaving thick layers on lawns can lead to damp patches and disease. Regularly rake up leaves and add them to your compost heap or create leaf mould, which makes an excellent soil conditioner.

Protect Tender Plants

Keep an eye on the weather forecast and move tender plants into greenhouses, conservatories, or sheltered locations before temperatures drop. Outdoor containers can be wrapped with fleece or bubble wrap for added protection.

Whether you're planting spring bulbs, refreshing your borders, or preparing for winter, Cherry Lane Garden Centres have everything you need to keep your garden looking its best. From seasonal plants and bulbs to compost, tools, and gardening essentials, we're here to help you make the most of your garden all year round.

Happy gardening! 🍂🌷🌱
