Johnsons' Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor Seeds produce a consistent crop that has been popular for many years among gardeners. With great garden performance, it is an early crop that produces traditional runner beans with scarlet flowers over an extended period. With smooth dark green pods that are full of flavour and freeze well for long term storage. High in vitamin A & C as well as dietary fibre, these beans are perfect in stir-fries, risottos or as a simple side dish. Try growing runner beans with sweet peas to attract pollinating insects to the flowers, and Nasturtiums to draw aphids away from your crop.

Easy to grow and versatile, peas and beans make a delicious and nutritious addition to any meal. As well as being a traditional side, legumes also provide a terrific source of protein for a vegan diet. Peas and broad beans prefer cool conditions but need to be grown in full sun or partial shade. Short on space? Many varieties are well suited to growing in plant pots. Ideally you do not want to overcook either peas or beans, keeping just a touch of crispness.
