We lead such busy lives, so we need a home that works on many levels for the whole family. Open planned living can help your family stay connected, whilst still enjoying a little independence.

Make the most of every space.

Our living room is the heart of the home and needs to be a comfortable space for the whole family. Laying down a large, plush rug will create an additional playing space for the children. Perfect for protecting your floor from any unexpected spills and mess.

Let’s stay together.

Give multi-purpose to rooms with reading nooks, sofa beds and space-saving desks. Think outside of the box and be clever with your furniture. The more purpose you can add to a room, the easier it is to encourage time spent together as a family.

Don’t skimp on the functional.

Investing in functional storage for a family home will pay off in the long run. It’s not always easy to encourage children to tidy. However, having an organised storage system in the room will make it simpler for everyone to tidy up.

All things bright and beautiful.

Colourful and creative décor can inspire young minds and make the space feel more inclusive for the whole family. Adding a splash of colour can add a splash of fun. Let the little ones help you choose patterns and designs for the main living space. Make it a space they’re proud to be part of.

Everyone out.

Create an outdoor oasis that the whole family can enjoy. Have somewhere for the adults to relax whilst the children are playing. Dine al fresco with family and friends. Plant the garden as a family and then watch it grow together.

A little privacy goes a long way.

Make a space that can be reserved for time alone. Having a quiet area where adults can work without being disturbed puts less stress on the family. I’m sure older children will appreciate a room for focused studying.

Remember, no family is alike – your home needs to be tailored to yours. Compromise is an integral component of happy family life. Let everyone bring a little of themselves to each room and you will all feel truly at home.
