The holidays are now over and we’re in the depths of winter. So it’s time to relax and get cosy, complete with a warm fire, a glass of wine or mug of hot chocolate, snuggly socks, soft blankets, good company and our favourite film.
And with the growing movement toward more sustainable, eco-friendly products in our homes, it’s easier than ever to make our cosy nights eco-conscious, too. Take Coffee Logs, for example – fire logs made from recycled coffee! These fire logs are made from waste coffee grounds collected from cafes, coffee shops, office blocks, railway stations and airports around the UK. Which means your daily latte is getting a second life. In fact, each log is made from the grounds of around 25 cups of coffee.
And because coffee is a great source of fuel, Coffee Logs burn 20% hotter and longer than kiln-dried wood. Meaning they’re efficient and good value. They burn best in wood burners and multi-fuel stoves and depending on the efficiency of your appliance and the airflow, they tend to burn for around an hour. They’re also best left undisturbed, which means you can snuggle down into the sofa without having to get up to tend the fire.
In the UK we drink 95 million cups of coffee every day, creating an estimated 500,000 tonnes of waste coffee. Waste grounds are typically sent to landfill where they emit methane, a greenhouse gas 34 times more potent than carbon dioxide. But Coffee Logs save on emissions – in fact, they generate 80% less emissions than if the grounds were sent to landfill.
But we know what you’re really wondering… do they smell of coffee? While there’s a slight aroma when you first open the bag, Coffee Logs don’t smell of coffee when they’re burning. So there’s no need to worry about your lounge smelling like the local coffee hangout.
Coffee Logs come in 8kg bags and are packaged in fully recyclable paper, with a convenient carry handle for easy transport. They can be burned on their own or in conjunction with wood. They produce a lot of heat, though, so we recommend no more than 2 or 3 Coffee Logs at a time.
